NyPa Turf (Distichlis spicata var. yensen-4a) is a halophytic grass that has been developed as a turf for use in highly saline areas where conventional turf grasses will not survive. It has fine leaves and a low growth habit with a deep root system. It would be ideally suited to country towns with rising saline groundwater issues, where it could be irrigated with this saline groundwater. This would provide these towns with a means of disposing of the saline groundwater, while providing areas of turf suitable for sporting facilities and amenity uses, and freeing up valuable fresh water for other uses.
NyPa Turf is currently being evaluated an bulked up by a number of leading Turf farms throughout Australia.
